Unrestored Collectibles

                            HOME

On this page, I'm posting excellent 19th century bags and kilims that I originally bought with the intention of restoring. These projects never were completed, however, and so I'm now offering them "as is."  Their damaged areas can be rewoven, or the pieces can be displayed as they are. Several important Northwestern Anatolian ala çuval are included, for example--pieces that I bought a few years ago when it was apparent that early examples were becoming very rare. These pieces were given hard daily use, and even with their holes, the examples shown here are in better condition than most survivors of their age.  I've also included some early Antep/Maras çuval that show evidence of very hard use in the nomadic environment.
