Embroidered Kanjiri
Sindh, Pakistan. Probably from the area around Diplo or Mithi in southeast Sindh, near the Indian border. 18"x 28."

Cotton embroidery on cotton. This style of work is known as pakkoh embroidery, and consists of chain stitch, buttonhole stitch and satin stitch, along with small mirrors. These embroidered backless blouses were given very hard use, and thus few fine old examples have survived. Invariably they are ragged, with lots of missing mirrors, as is the case with this lovely example. Both the neck edge and the arm panels on this blouse were rebound at some time in the past to prolong its useful life. Strings originally attached to these panels went around the neck and midriff  to tie in the back.  $275
