Miao Baby Carrier
Taijiang/Leishan County, Guizhou Province. China

17½"x 23½." Early 20th century. Dragons and flowers are executed on this very fine baby carrier with padded and shaded silk satin-stitch embroidery. The decorative flap is decorated with silk braid appliqué and coins. The delicate borders are cross stitch and appliquéd tiny folded silk triangles. Metal ornaments, bells and sequins are attached.
