MARLA MALLETT: TEXTILES Japanese Uchikake Early 1950s. 50½"across shoulders; 72"long. Wedding kimono with yuzen dyeing and gold couched threads. An old traditional kimono motif appears here: kimono fabric strips fashioned as a stylized bundle of noshi, dried strips of abalone, considered to be auspicious. Black silk basket-weave fabric, with gold lamé lining and padded hem. This dramatic piece is in excellent condition.
