Kashmir Shawl India.  Late 19th century Wool. Handwoven double-interlocked twill tapestry bands; outer embroidered borders.  61"x 61." On these shawls, half of the shawl is done with the right side up, half with the reverse side up, so that when it is folded diagonally as in the photos here, we see just the front face of all the borders. This piece has several tiny mends of holes in the red under sections, and a short row of black stains. The patterned borders are of top quality and in perfect condition.
