Japanese Tomesode
Meiji period, 1890-1900.
Woman's formal kimono in chirimen silk with yuzen dyed bonzai motif.  Five mon (crests). 50"across the shoulders; 59"long. The back is plain, except for three white crests.  The hand-painted design is repeated on the lower lining. The upper lining is red benibana-dyed silk. This was probably a geisha's formal kimono.  Read about yuzen dyeing on the Design Techniques page.  The kimono is in excellent condition.    $345   HOLD
