MARLA MALLETT: TEXTILES

Japanese Irosode
Circa 1900.
Formal kimono of chirimen silk crepe with yuzen dyeing. Floral motif with carts. 50"across the shoulders; 59"long.  The intense color of this kimono seems to change in hue depending upon the light.  In daylight, it is a strong cobalt blue; in incandescent light, it appears purple. The garment has a red benibana (saffron dyed) lining, and it is in excellent condition.
