| On these pages I have posted a sampling of fiber works from my years as a studio artist long ago--the years before I began focusing on antique textiles. Many of the wall hangings and rugs on this first page are available for purchase. | My weavings are simple, understated fiber reliefs. They are architectural in concept, with design ideas that often evolved directly from the method of fiber interlacement. Others developed from a consideration of the unique structural characteristics of the components. The woven images are non-allusive; tactile sensation, color and the structure itself are the idea. While the underlying geometry of the woven structures prevails, the grids are quasi-geometric; the modules vary and the interstices are irregular. The free movement of loose fibers or woven parts produces additional random shifts in overall patterning. A few tufted rugs focus solely on flat-patterning. | |
| The weavings are constructed from a wide range of luxurious
materials: masses of lustrous wools, scratchy horsehair or
goathair, wiry linen, manila or sisal, sometimes with sleek nylon, mylar
or even rubber used for startling contrast. Subtle, analogous color
tonalities and contrasting reflective qualities accentuate the
sensual nature of the materials. Several of the pieces on this page are available for purchase, and prices are listed for those. The weavings on the next two pages are not. |
