Kurdish Jajim
Kermanshah area, West Persia. Early 20th century.

Wool. 6'7"x 6'11." Warp-substitution weave. As is typical, this jajim was woven in one very long strip which was then cut into seven sections that were sewed together. It is a very heavy piece, in excellent condition, with a coarse weave that allows for a bold pattern. Thus it is a very different kind of weaving from the thin, delicate jajims made by Kurds in Khorasan. Only the structure and technique are the same.   $875
