Dragon Robe - Ch'ao-fu
China.  19th century.  Kesi, silk and gold.

78" wide by 56." There is fraying of the slit-tapestry fabric on the shoulder line which is not evident when the robe is hung; the black silk on the cuffs is shredded. The body of the garment is in quite good condition, both front and back. Unlike some later 19th century kesi robes, nearly all of the details on this garment are slit-tapestry woven, not painted. A ninth dragon is on the hidden flap inside. This robe should not be worn; it is appropriate for display only.   HOLD
