Kente Cloth
Ashanti People, Ghana

Silk and cotton.  7'10"x 11."  This classis strip weave was made with 21 strips.  The details are brocaded.  The piece is thought to be perhaps 70 or 80 years old.  It is in very good condition, with two or three very small holes near the edges.   See the photo of an Ashanti chief wearing a Kente Cloth at the top of the African Textiles page.
